Ryujin decided to go to the capital.
He intended to capture those who tried to take him by force and make them obey, or… depending on the opponent, he wouldn’t hesitate to kill them.
But the next morning, as he was preparing to leave, he realized something. He didn't know where the capital was.
Ryujin could teleport even to places he hadn't been before. Even to the other side of the planet.
… He could do it in terms of ability. But realistically, of course, he couldn’t go to a place that didn't exist. And he couldn’t go to a place he didn’t know how to find.
He couldn’t teleport using just names like “the capital of the Galiza Kingdom” or vague directions like “some hot springs.”
He needed to confirm the situation at the destination beforehand with his divine eyes. That was to prevent him from teleporting into the middle of a wall. He needed a skill like divine eyes to confirm the situation before teleporting.
If he used the full power of his divine eyes, he could even sense the other side of this planet. If he could detect the location, he could teleport there.
But if he didn’t know where the place was, even if he randomly found a city somewhere while scanning the world, he wouldn't be able to tell if it was the capital or what it looked like without knowing that information.
If he teleported to every city he found until he found the right one, he would have to search every city in the world.
(Ryujin knew about Sophie’s magic power, so he could have used that to search, but he hadn’t thought of that yet.)
He needed to identify a general area using a map or something to narrow down the search. If he didn’t even know which direction it was in, it would take too long to find it.
So Ryujin needed to find a map that showed the locations of the capital and Mimul. But maps were considered strategic information in this world, so they were strictly controlled and not easily available to the general public.
The most reliable way was to ask someone who had been there…
Who would know the most about the capital?
Someone who had been there, like the Lord? He probably had a map, but he didn’t know if the Lord would show it to him. There wasn’t much trust between the Lord and Ryujin. In fact, they were almost enemies, given their positions. He might be able to get it by threatening him, but Ryujin didn’t want to become a villain.
He could read the Lord’s mind to find out the location, but he would have to make the Lord visualize the map. It was possible to dig into someone’s deepest memories, even if they weren’t thinking about something, but to do that, he would have to search through all of his mind, as if he were ravaging the Lord’s thoughts.
Ryujin didn’t want to delve that deeply into someone's mind. It was too mentally draining, and he preferred to avoid doing it.
Who else had been to the capital?
Catherine was the guild master, so she must have been there.
No, the people who go to the capital most often are merchants. It would be best to ask someone from the Merchant’s Guild.
Thinking about that, Ryujin decided to visit the Merchant’s Guild Master, Aile. He hadn’t been to the Merchant’s Guild in a while, but Aile welcomed him warmly.
The Merchant’s Guild had various types of maps for business purposes, but they were more like collections of handwritten notes by merchants.
Ryujin asked Aile to write down the approximate route on a piece of paper. At the same time, he activated his divine eyes and read the image of the road and the capital that was in Aile’s mind, so he had a pretty specific picture.
All that was left was to scan the area carefully and identify the city. Then he could teleport.
But there was one more thing he had to do before he left. Ryujin went to the Adventurers' Guild.
When Ryujin arrived at the Adventurers' Guild reception, he told them that he was quitting.
The receptionist, Leila, was surprised and, without processing the information, rushed off to get Catherine.
Ryujin had just wanted to hand in his adventurer card and be done with it, but there was nothing he could do. In the end, he was led to the guild master’s office and had to meet with Catherine.
Ryuu: “You don't need the guild master’s permission to quit, do you? You need to screen applicants to decide whether to hire them or not, but you can't force someone to work if they don't want to."
Catherine: “W, why are you suddenly quitting?!”
Ryuu: "I thought about it carefully, and I realized there are almost no benefits for me in belonging to the Adventurers' Guild."
Catherine: "B, but, you know, your guild card is a form of ID. It’s handy when you go to other cities."
Ryuu: "I have a Merchant’s Guild card, so I don't need the Adventurers' Guild card."
Catherine: "W, what about buying materials?"
Ryuu: "The Merchant's Guild buys for more, doesn’t it?"
Catherine: "U, well, what about dungeon information?"
Ryuu: "It's much more efficient and reliable to get the dungeon information myself when I explore it."
Catherine: "You know, learning from senior adventurers, or training younger adventurers…"
Ryuu: "The adventurers here are weaker than me. Why would they learn from me? And as for training, my methods wouldn’t be helpful for other adventurers."
Catherine: "W, there are also, you know, all kinds of information the guild provides. Like the information I told you about the request to capture you!"
Ryuu: "That… The ‘Adventurers’ Guild’ is accepting requests to capture adventurers for unfair reasons. That means they don’t care about protecting adventurers. I’m personally grateful to you for telling me, but what does that say about the Adventurers' Guild’s attitude?"
Catherine: "U… Well…
But what are you going to do now that you’ve quit the Adventurers' Guild?"
Ryuu: "I’m going to the capital to beat up the person who gave the order to capture me."
Catherine: "Beat him up? That means you’re going to face the royal family or nobles…?"
Ryuu: "See? You knew, didn't you? Someone sent the request to the guild, and the guild knows who it is, right?"
Catherine: "T, that’s… It’s against the rules to disclose client information… And, I don’t know who the client is! Really! It’s just an assumption that they’re a noble or a royal."
Ryuu: "I figured. So I’m going to visit the guild in the capital first and get the information from the guild master."
Catherine: "If you’re going to the capital, you should still have your adventurer card."
Ryuu: "It’s useless, isn't it? We’re likely to be enemies now. The Adventurers' Guild and the adventurers who tried to capture me."
Even Catherine was speechless.
Ryujin continued, "...And…,"
Ryuu: "I’m going to the capital to smash the source of this problem. Worst-case scenario, I might end up destroying the royalty and nobility in the capital, or even the whole capital. Would it be okay if I stayed an adventurer, and the guild had to take responsibility for that?"
Finally, Catherine accepted Ryujin's resignation. She told him to consider returning as an adventurer when things calmed down, but Ryujin said that he would think about it then.
Catherine looked dejected, but Ryujin didn’t feel much sympathy for her. He had a feeling that he had been used the whole time, so he didn’t feel like comforting her. (TN: Honestly I liked Catherine but it seems that Ryu is not gonna be an adventurer anymore)

Next Time
Ryujin heads to the capital, and an S-rank adventurer targets him.
