Chapter 101: The Magic Arrow Archer vs. S-Rank

Batt’s main weapon was a bow called the "MFB (Magic Falcon Bow)."

This bow, a legendary item found in the depths of a certain dungeon, was said to house a wind spirit. It had a skill called Cruise, which could imbue arrows with wind magic, dramatically increasing their range, allowing them to fly for tens of kilometers.

It also had a Guidance skill that could guide the arrow in a curved path to hit its target, avoiding obstacles.

The bow also had PenetrationDefense Ignore, and Stealth effects.

It was a powerful cheat weapon that could pierce through a target’s defenses from a distance, using Clairvoyance to lock onto the target.

Batt had struggled to become a B-rank archer, but he had been stuck there.

Archers weren’t highly valued in the adventurer world. They weren’t very good at melee combat, but they also didn’t have a very powerful destructive force from a distance either. In battles, they were inevitably relegated to a support role, and the higher their rank, the less their usefulness and the lower their value. It was inevitable.

One day, Batt decided to challenge a certain dungeon, to break through his limitations. It was a dungeon where a legendary bow was said to be sleeping in the depths, according to the elves.

It wasn’t just a legend. Batt believed in its existence.

But to obtain this item, he had to reach the bottom of the dungeon and defeat the boss monster.

Batt wasn't strong enough to do it on his own, but he was encouraged by his friends, who believed in him.

He might not be able to do it alone, but if he had friends who believed in him…

… but it turned out to be too much of a challenge.

The cost was high.

He managed to get the legendary bow.

But his friends were all killed, and Batt was the only one who survived the dungeon.

His friends had sacrificed their lives so he could obtain the bow. It was a memento of his friends, and Batt's goal became to fulfill their dream of becoming an S-rank adventurer.

After obtaining the legendary bow, Batt mastered its abilities and managed to reach A-rank. Then one day, a dragon attacked the capital.

Dragons had tough skin that made physical attacks almost useless. They also had high magic resistance.

The capital’s knights and adventurers couldn’t do anything against the dragon, which flew high in the sky and attacked from above with powerful breath attacks.

Batt came to the capital at that time and managed to defeat the dragon.

Those who excelled at close combat were not good at fighting flying monsters. But Batt could use the MFB to shoot a dragon's head from a distance, even from high in the sky.

Batt’s power, and the power of his bow, became known throughout the land. He was awarded S-rank for his bravery in slaying the dragon and protecting the capital.

Batt set up camp in a forest several kilometers away, as he was wary of Ryujin’s teleportation magic.

He didn’t know the range of Ryujin’s teleportation magic, but he thought this distance would be safe enough. (Batt had never seen anyone use magic effectively from this far away.)

He decided to attack when Ryujin left the city and was distracted by goblins.

He was going to stun Ryujin by hitting him in the back of the head.

He had made sure that the arrowheads were soft and heavy so that it wouldn’t kill Ryujin.

Humans instantly lose consciousness when they are hit hard in the back of the head. A soft, heavy blow could penetrate armor and helmets. Plus, Batt's bow had a Penetration skill, so he wouldn’t miss his target.

The downside to Batt's long-range attack was that after hitting his target, it would take a while to reach Ryujin’s location. But Batt thought he could just shoot Ryujin’s limbs and pin him to the ground. As long as he didn’t kill him, it would still be a success if he injured his limbs. Batt's bow could even accurately hit the joints and disable him.

He would gain more fame as an S-rank adventurer if he captured Ryujin.

So far, Batt was the only S-rank adventurer, but the A-rank party, Raiou and the others, were starting to stand out. The Blazing Heroes, in particular, were growing rapidly and had finally been certified as an S-rank party.

But they had failed to capture Ryujin. If he could capture Ryujin, it would be more than enough to show off his S-rank power.

Batt thought about all of this as he released the arrow.

Batt didn’t aim for Ryujin’s head. He intentionally aimed to miss, using the Cruise skill to guide the arrow. He launched the attack from a different direction, behind Ryujin, and from a different location than where he was hiding.

But the arrow, which he had complete confidence in, was easily dodged by Ryujin.

Unbelievable.

He had never missed before.

He had also enchanted the arrow with Stealth, so it should have been invisible and inaudible to the target. And the angle had been a perfect blind spot.

Ryujin had effortlessly dodged it.

Maybe it was just a lucky dodge.

Some people are just lucky. Maybe Ryujin was one of them.

But luck doesn’t run out. He couldn’t dodge the next arrow.

But Ryujin dodged the second and third arrows as well. The attacks came from different angles and directions. It was hard to believe, but it seemed like Ryujin was completely anticipating his attacks. He had never missed an arrow since he got this bow.

He hadn’t even missed when shooting dragons…

Batt told himself to calm down. Ryujin didn’t know where he was, so he could just hide his presence, wait, and look for another opportunity. He should move to a new location just in case. If he waited patiently, he would eventually get another chance…

He was about to move, but it was too late. Ryujin was standing behind him.

Next Time

Even an S-rank archer can’t defeat Ryujin.

Don’t miss it!
