“Oi, you. It’s morning now, why don’t you wake up already?”
I hear a voice. But my head is telling me I want to keep sleeping.
So I ignored it.
“Hmm…I’ll have to use my last resort then. My ultimate move, One Hundred Consecutive Strikes!!”
I feel a stabbing sensation on my body.
“Ouch, AAAAAAAAAA!!!”
I jump out of bed.
I look up and see an old man swinging a spear.
“Intruder?!”
I’m confused in the moment.
Why? Why is there an old man with a spear in my house?
Is he a robber?
If he’s a robber, I have to catch him!
“Whew, you finally woke up.”
“I’m gonna catch yaaaaaaaaaaa!!!”
I jump out of bed, aiming to land an elbow on the old man.
Huh?
I mean, he’s translucent.
My body and the old man’s body overlap, and then my body slams into the wall with a thud.
“Why did you jump at the wall?”
True, from the outside, it would look like I suddenly jumped at the wall.
“I was trying to catch the intruder…!”
I try to argue, then I realize.
Ah, this old man.
He’s the demon I summoned yesterday.
I completely forgot.
“Uh, was it Furcas?”
“Yes, I am Furcas, the 50th in rank.”
Furcas said that, puffing out his chest as if to show off.
But no matter how much that frail old man puffed his chest, it only looked like he was trying to put up a front.
“Are you really a demon?”
“Are you doubting me?”
“It’s not like that, but…”
The image of a demon was much more terrifying, so my brain simply couldn’t keep up with the gap.
“You see, I’ve never summoned a demon before, so I don’t really know what to do.”
“Oh, so you’ve never summoned a demon before? You chose me for your first time, you have great foresight.”
For some reason, I was complimented.
“Thank you,” I replied.
“So what do you want from me?”
Furcas stared at me with wide eyes.
Right, summoning a demon means I have to command it to do something.
But, I just tried summoning a demon as a trial run. I didn’t have anything specific I wanted it to do.
No, that’s not true.
There was one thing I wanted to command it to do.
“You see, I want you to teach me Fire Magic.”
“Hohoho, you want to learn magic from me? Why’s that?”
“Well…”
Then, I explained it to Furcas.
That I attended a magic school.
That I couldn’t do the magic that even younger students could easily do.
That I was laughed at by the other students and scolded by my parents.
And that I would be kicked out of my house because I couldn’t use magic.
“Oh, it seems like you’ve been through a lot, hmm. I understand why you can’t use magic.”
“Huh? What?”
I asked immediately.
If I knew why I couldn’t use magic, maybe I could find a solution.
“You have a body that is extremely susceptible to demons. This also means, on the other hand, that you’re not easily liked by spirits and angels.”
“I’m susceptible to demons?”
I learned this for the first time.
“Yes. You are incredibly gifted in demon-summoning.”
“So, does that mean I can summon demons, but not do Fire Magic?”
“That’s right.”
“No way…”
I hung my head, knowing that there was nothing I could do about it.
It seems I’m not destined to be a magician.
“But, if you borrow the power of a demon, you might be able to do something similar to Fire Magic.”
“You can do that?!”
I suddenly looked up.
So, maybe there are some demons in this spellbook who are good at manipulating fire!
“If you want to manipulate fire, I recommend the 23rd in rank, Aim.”
“Really?!”
Excited, I flipped through the spellbook to find him.
“But you see, Aim has a bit of a personality problem.”
Furcas said that, stopping me.
Right, since Furcas is like a kind grandfather, I almost forget that this is a demon I’m about to summon.
There’s a possibility that one of them might attack me.
“So, maybe I should forget about summoning Aim?”
“Hmm, it might be a bit of a detour, but why don’t you try summoning the 55th in rank, Orobas? He’s loyal to his summoner. He’ll definitely help you.”
Huh, so some demons are loyal.
“Thank you. I’ll try that right away.”
I said that, going to flip through the spellbook—
“Big brother, what are you doing sleeping in there?!”
The sound of a door slamming shut.
My sister, Nene, opened the door.
The maid stood next to her, looking worried.
Oh no, if this continues, Nene will see Furcas.
I quickly started thinking about what excuse I could use.
