"So, what exactly do we do to help people?"
The day after summoning Focalor.
It was already late, so I dismissed her and summoned her again the next morning.
"Well, let's go to the Lower Town first."
And so, the three of us, me, Focalor, and Orobas, took a carriage to the Lower Town.
By the way, today is a school holiday, so I'm free to go anywhere.
"This is my first time going to the Lower Town."
Orobas spoke casually in the carriage.
"That's right. You usually don't go outside the Noble District."
Here, in the Ditel Magical City-State, the living areas are divided by whether you're a magician or not.
The area where magicians live is the Noble District.
The place where non-magicians live is called the Lower Town.
My house is on the outskirts of the Noble District.
The magic school is located in the Noble District, so I rarely leave the Noble District unless I have a special reason.
"So, what are we doing in this so-called Lower Town?"
"Well, that's a surprise for later."
And so, the carriage headed towards the Lower Town.
"This is our destination."
I pointed at a seemingly ordinary building.
"What's here?"
"Well, you'll know when we go inside."
Seeing is better than explaining.
"Oh, right. Both of you, could you materialize before we get off the carriage?"
And so, both of them materialized.
Orobas transformed from a horse-human into a dapper-looking man.
Focalor lost her gargoyle wings when she materialized.
We then entered the building.
"Ugh, it smells of alcohol."
Focalor said upon entering.
Indeed, as soon as I entered, the pungent smell of alcohol filled my nostrils.
I saw burly men holding tankards of ale, making a commotion.
It's still daytime, yet they're already like this.
It's my first time entering, so I'm surprised by the scene.
"Hey, brat! This ain't no place for a greenhorn like you! Scram!"
"I'm a magician."
"What? A magician, huh? That means you're a noble. I hate nobles."
"You there, youuuu! That was an insult to the master! Even if the kind master forgives you, I won't!"
"What? You wanna fight, huh?"
Orobas and the man stared each other down.
Then, other men in the seats shouted, "A fight's breaking out!" and gathered around.
"Orobas, don't overdo it."
I gave a warning, then went to the counter. A receptionist-like figure stood behind it.
"I'm new here, but I'd like to register as an adventurer."
"You are a magician, as I heard in the conversation?"
"Yes, that's right."
"What about that lady?"
"W-well, um..."
"She's also a magician."
I answered for Focalor who couldn't speak.
She probably can use magic, so it's better to say she's a magician.
"What about the man fighting over there?"
"He's, um, a martial artist."
Orobas would be a swordsman or spearman if he had weapons, but he doesn't, so I decided to call him a martial artist.
"So, what exactly is this place?"
"You don't recognize it?"
"No, I don't."
"This is the Adventurer's Guild."
"Adventurer's Guild...?"
"Well, it's a place where you help people."
"Okay, you're registered."
The receptionist said while we were talking.
"Here are your Guild Cards. There are three."
"Thank you very much."
I received three Guild Cards.
"Initially, everyone is E-rank, but you'll rank up as you gain achievements."
"Yes, I understand."
Well, since we're only going to be adventurers this once, we probably won't rank up.
The nobles, or magicians, of the Ditel Magical City-State are not very interested in the Adventurer's Guild.
They even have a tendency to think it's barbaric.
Only very poor magicians work as adventurers to make money.
I went to the bulletin board in the guild and saw various requests.
From monster hunting to dog searching, the content varied greatly.
That's right, I came to the Adventurer's Guild with the intention of helping people by taking on requests.
A request that matched my purpose was...
"Here it is."
I took a request sheet.
It read, 'Wagon Escort'.
Looking over, I saw the men who were fighting with Orobas happily drinking.
What are they doing, I wonder.
"Come on, let's go. Orobas."
"Yes, master! I'm ready!"
Orobas is already smelling of alcohol.
Is he really okay?
I wonder that to myself, but I decide to take him along anyway.
