Koai awoke to the sound of a torrential downpour beating against the roof and walls.

She could feel Snow's hand on her back, and beyond it, the sound of her breathing.
The hand wasn't moving, and her breathing was soft and calm.
She must still be asleep. Koai carefully and slowly moved away, trying not to wake her.
Then she got out of bed, leaned against the wall, and looked up at the sky through the window where raindrops danced.

Outside, it was still so dark she couldn't even make out the color of the clouds. The sun probably hadn't risen yet.
With that thought, Koai returned to the bed and gently lay down, careful not to wake Snow.

It wasn't that Koai felt she had to sleep until dawn and wake up in the morning.
It was just that she felt at a loss for what to do while Snow was sleeping, and it felt wrong to wake her.

So, Koai quietly lay down on her back next to her.
But,

"Mm... morning?"
a nasal voice could be heard.

"...No, not yet, it seems."
Did I wake her?
Koai replied, feeling apologetic but also thinking what an adorable voice it was.

"Mmm, well then, let's go back to sleep."
Snow skillfully pushed Koai onto her side, then shifted her own body and pressed her back against Koai's.

Back to back.
Not looking at each other, not holding hands.

Koai found this slightly dissatisfying.
As if she couldn't shake a touch of sadness... feeling that something was lacking, wishing to be fulfilled.
