...Come to think of it, those arrows they were using... I forgot to examine them.

As Koai opened the map, it occurred to her that she should have checked whether the attackers had poisoned their weapons—their daggers and arrows—just as she had heard.
However, she wasn't interested enough to go out of her way and turn back just to rummage through the attackers' corpses for their weapons.

If another group attacks, I can just check then... With that thought, Koai turned her attention to the map.

According to the map, if she managed to cross the eastern bridge... she should head north, gradually veering west to avoid climbing the high ground that spread from the north to the east, until a forest came into view on her left... or so it said.

Koai found this explanation a bit hard to understand, but... when she looked to her right, the northeast side was indeed high ground. The description so far was certainly correct. In that case, she decided to first try following the map's instructions.

There also seemed to be a description of the forest that lay ahead, but she decided to read it later and closed the map.
Guiding her horse to avoid climbing the high ground, and occasionally waiting while the horse stopped to graze, Koai leisurely made her way north.

The sun sank in the west, and soon the sky began to turn red.
But even as that time came, the forest was still not in sight... As far as she could see, there was no low ground ahead.
