On her way back to the castle, Koai spotted a small bird perched on the castle wall.

The small bird pointed its beak straight ahead, as if staring intently at Koai, neither moving nor chirping. Its behavior was far from the usual bustling nature of a bird.

She didn't sense any magic from the bird. But for some reason, Koai felt a strong sense of displeasure towards it, the same feeling she'd had when she stared at the red pillar of light earlier.

Koai found herself glaring at the small bird.

Then, the small bird suddenly shook its head from side to side, as if snapping back to its senses. As Koai continued to glare, the bird hastily flapped its wings and flew away.

Watching the somewhat suspicious bird fly away, Koai pondered as she walked along the path to the castle.

That pillar of light and the man... whether by teleportation or summoning magic, there was no doubt they had appeared through sorcery.

However, there were no beings emitting magic in this area. Whether it was teleportation or summoning, it was dangerous to cast such spells without first understanding the conditions of the target area.

It was only something I'd heard, but... in the past, there was supposedly a mage who used teleportation magic outdoors and had both their legs replaced with stone and torn off, and another whose arm became embedded with a bird, rendering it immobile. It is because I've heard such stories that I am always careful to ensure there are no interruptions when I summon her.

Was that spell cast by someone intimately familiar with the local geography and the castle's layout? Or was the targeted man simply considered disposable?
