Koai was visiting the fortified city of Shattar alone, located in the western part of the Tablis territory, slightly to the south.
The area was on relatively low ground compared to its surroundings. Furthermore, there was open land down by the river, which was utilized to create a small port for ferrying boats to the opposite bank of the Rurumius River.
Eventually, the movement of goods to the east and west became more active, and the port and its surroundings naturally developed, giving rise to a city for merchants... This was the fortified city of Shattar.
Currently, with the east bank of the river being elven territory and the west bank human territory, the flow of people was decreasing... but the flow of goods remained as vigorous as ever, and the city felt lively.
However, Koai's purpose today was not the bustle of people and goods... she had come to this city simply because it was the fortified city closest to the great southern forest.
From here, she would proceed towards the southernmost village in the territory.
For that, she wanted to ask for directions... but who would know the way?
Koai stopped her horse before the wide city gate, where not even a single guard could be seen.
Occasionally, a horse-drawn cart would emerge from beyond the gate, rumbling along.
Among the cart drivers and their apparent escorts, some would glance at Koai as they passed, while others went by without showing any particular caution.
For a while, Koai absentmindedly watched the carts leaving the fortified city, contemplating her journey ahead.
The carts were leaving the city, but for some reason, she saw none entering.
Should she leave her horse here, or ride it all the way to the village? That was another thing she should ask about and consider.
It would be nice if it were close. She wondered if the village's name was marked on the map. In the first place, it would be good if there was someone knowledgeable.
