Chapter 3: Don't Be Afraid, Daddy's Here

In the spacious backseat of the Rolls-Royce, Su Luo sat obediently, tilting her small head to ask him, “Daddy, where are we going?”

Huo Tingyan leaned back in his seat, resting with his eyes closed. Hearing her, he slowly opened them, his gaze falling on the little girl's grimy face. His brows furrowed slightly, and he said in a low voice, “Don't call me Daddy anymore.”

The little girl obediently nodded, then sweetly called out, “Okay, Daddy!”

Huo Tingyan: “...”

The little girl looked at him with an innocent expression, her face seeming to ask, “Is there a problem?”

Huo Tingyan: “...Never mind. Just be happy.”

The man closed his eyes again, refusing to interact with her.

Su Luo parted her small lips, about to say something more, when she inadvertently caught sight of the faint dark circles under his eyes and the undisguised exhaustion etched between his brows.

Daddy must be very tired...

Su Luo obediently closed her mouth, thoughtfully refraining from disturbing her daddy’s rest.

Before long, the little girl's attention was drawn to the scenery outside the window. Her grimy little face pressed against the car window as she watched the world outside with great interest.

During the drive, Huo Tingyan kept his eyes closed, feigning sleep. Though the little girl beside him didn't make a sound, her presence was impossible to ignore.

The little girl's appearance was no coincidence. Who would believe there wasn't something fishy going on behind it?

A faint, enigmatic smile played on the man's lips.

He wanted to see just what this little girl was up to.

Just as he was thinking this, a soft little 'dumpling' suddenly tumbled into his arms.

Huo Tingyan’s eyes snapped open, his gaze clear, without a hint of tiredness.

He lowered his head slightly and saw the little girl leaning her head against his chest, her small mouth slightly agape, sleeping soundly.

As if sensing his gaze, the little girl snuggled closer with a soft whine, showing no signs of waking.

Huo Tingyan instantly stiffened. He looked down at her grimy little face, his brows furrowed deeply.

This little girl was truly so trusting. She had no guard up at all; did she really trust him that much?

Although Huo Tingyan was strikingly handsome, he always wore a cold expression, like a block of radiating ice. His aura was sharp and powerful, inspiring awe and fear in others.

Because of this, Huo Tingyan was never popular with children.

Ordinary children would cry hysterically upon seeing him, desperate to hide far away. Even the lawless little tyrants of the Huo family would cower like frightened quails in front of their Third Uncle, not daring to show any hint of defiance.

So, it was fair to say this was the first time Third Master Huo had ever been favored by a child.

This little girl seemed so well-behaved and adorable, yet surprisingly bold. She dared to pounce on him at their first meeting, and now she was sleeping so soundly in his arms.

An indescribable, inexplicable emotion suddenly arose in Huo Tingyan's heart.

The feeling seemed quite strange, yet at least he didn't reject it.

“Mmgh...” The little girl seemed to be having a nightmare, her hands flailing wildly in the air. Her two eyebrows were furrowed like caterpillars, and her expression was one of struggle and pain.

Huo Tingyan's eyes narrowed slightly as he stared at the little girl's grimy face for a long moment.

“...Go away, go away, don't come closer!” Even in her sleep, the little girl couldn't help but whimper, her tiny body trembling slightly, plagued by the nightmare.

Huo Tingyan's lips pressed into a thin line as he watched her for a moment...

Finally, the man slowly raised his hand and gently wrapped it around Su Luo's soft little body. Awkwardly, he patted her back, stroke after stroke, gently soothing her restless emotions.

“Don't be afraid...” The man paused, then said with a slight stiffness in his voice, “Daddy's here.”
