Chapter 14: Little Miss Luoluo's Background

The butler summoned a maid to take the little girl for her bath.

"Young Miss, please follow me." The maid crouched down to the little girl's eye level, offering a gentle, neighborly smile that instantly put one at ease.

"Thank you, sister." Su Luo obediently followed her. The maid led her to a guest bathroom.

"Young Miss, let me help you bathe," the maid said kindly, reaching to help her undress.

"N-no need... Thank you, sister. Luoluo can wash by herself." The little girl took a step back, shyly clutching the hem of her shirt. A faint pink blush spread across her cheeks like a sweet peach. Though young, she still felt shy about it, and besides, Luoluo had always bathed herself.

The maid couldn't help but chuckle softly. "Are you sure you can manage by yourself?"

"I can." Su Luo clenched her little fist and nodded firmly, her small face radiating determination.

Inside, the maid was screaming like a groundhog: Ahhhh! This is too adorable! Does anyone want to form a team to steal this child?

At Su Luo's insistence, the maid finally only prepared a change of clothes for her.

While the little girl was bathing, Assistant Chen had already completed his investigation into her background.

In the study, Huo Tingyan sat on the sofa, long legs crossed with an air of nonchalance.

"Third Young Master, here is the complete background information on Miss Luoluo." Assistant Chen respectfully presented a brown paper file folder.

Huo Tingyan opened the folder and slowly perused the documents inside, which detailed every known event in Su Luo's life from infancy onward.

Initially, the man's expression remained detached, but as he continued reading, his countenance gradually grew somber.

Assistant Chen wasn't surprised by this reaction.

Even he had felt a pang of deep sympathy for the little girl upon seeing this information, let alone the Third Young Master...

If this child truly was the Third Young Master's flesh and blood, not a single person at that welfare institute would escape punishment!

The little girl had been abandoned at the doorstep of the welfare institute on a snowy night. By the time the director found her, the infant's cries were already weak and fading. Had she been discovered any later, she might have frozen to death.

Though Su Luo survived after being taken in by the director, the welfare institute operated on severely limited funds. Life there often meant going hungry and cold, never knowing if there would be another meal after the current one.

Despite the hardships, under the director's protection, little Su Luo managed to grow up safely. Unfortunately, this fragile peace didn't last...The director passed away after only a few years. The deputy director took over her position, but this was a person of ill intentions who viewed the children as burdens.

She routinely vented her frustrations by scolding and beating the children, withheld food and necessities, and forced them to work long hours from a young age.

Life, already difficult, became even more desperate. The children would fight over a single steamed bun. Fragile and seemingly the easiest target, the little girl often had her food stolen by older children, leaving her hungry day after day.

She only survived by sharing the meager scraps her fellow orphans managed to secure for her.

Some families had expressed interest in adopting the little girl; after all, Su Luo was healthy and exceptionally cute looking.

Sadly, the last family who adopted her abandoned her again after having a child of their own.

Having endured abandonment twice, the fragile little girl's heart could no longer trust anyone. She chose to stay at the welfare institute, sharing both the joys and hardships with her companions.
