Chapter 9: Class

“Norman, you’re going to duel Legal in a week, huh?”

Mr. Rudon suddenly spoke to me during class.

“Uh, yes, but…”

I replied, and the other students began to giggle.

It seemed that everyone in the class, including the teachers, knew about the duel.

“Well, I have a lot to say, but be careful not to get hurt.”

Mr. Rudon said this, then went back to his lesson.

It seemed like he wasn’t going to stop the duel.

Well, this school doesn’t usually interfere in disputes between students.

But, class is going on now, and since I’ve realized I can’t use normal magic, I don’t really see the point of listening.

“In this air, there are countless spirits floating around, so small you can’t see them. If you close your eyes, you should be able to feel their presence. Learning to communicate with these spirits is the foundation of magic.”

Mr. Rudon lectured.

I closed my eyes, but I still couldn’t feel the presence of spirits.

Maybe I should try feeling the presence of a demon.

Instantly, I felt a dark presence coming from my bag.

I remember putting the spellbook “Goetia” for summoning demons in my bag.

I see, I can feel a demon’s presence.

Oh, I feel another presence further away.

That direction is where my house is.

So, this must be Orobas’ presence.

He’s a real demon, so he has immense magical power, which can be felt from a distance.

“Also, imagination is key. The more you visualize in your mind, in detail, how the spirits move and change, the easier it will be to control them.”

I see.

So, in my case, I should visualize how demons move and change in detail.

I tried to remember.

The moment Orobas was summoned.

But I imagined not just what I saw with my eyes, but the flow of magical energy, Orobas’ breathing and heartbeat, and how the magical circle activated, visualizing all these details in my mind.

And then, surprisingly, the image formed easily.

Hmm, that long spell.

There’s some unnecessary parts.

I think I can omit them.

Also, if I can perfectly replicate the flow of magical energy in the magical circle using my own magic, I probably don’t need to actually draw it.

I see, that’s how everyone learns magic.

It was a very pleasant feeling, suddenly understanding something I didn’t before.

I listened to Mr. Rudon’s lecture while mentally substituting demons for spirits.

“Wow, the room is so clean!”

“Yes, I did my best to make it clean for my Master!”

Orobas said this, and the room, which had been so dusty, was now gleaming.

I had never imagined it would be this clean.

How did he do this? Maybe he did lick it clean like he mentioned in his introduction…

Ugh, I’m going to stop thinking about this.

“Maybe you’re good at other chores too?”

“Yes, besides cleaning, I excel at all household chores, like cooking and laundry.”

Oh, he’s quite skilled, even though he’s a demon.

I had been worried about what to do since I was now on my own, since the maids always took care of the housework, but it seems that I won’t have any problems if I can rely on Orobas.

“Then, can I ask you to do other chores? It would be unfair to make you do everything by yourself, so I’ll help too.”

“No! I wouldn’t dream of burdening my Master! I can handle it all by myself!”

“If you insist…”

And so, my strange cohabitation with a demon began.
