Chapter 10: The Binding Spell

“Alright, let’s start training in magic.”

I proposed this immediately.

“Understood, Master. I’ll help you too.”

Actually, I was really excited to start magic training.

It’s finally here! I felt that way.

“So, like I said this morning, we’ll start with the Binding Spell training.”

According to the spellbook “Goetia,” the Binding Spell is a spell used to immobilize a demon when it tries to do something against the summoner’s will.

“Then, I’ll be moving constantly so it’s obvious when I’m immobilized. Yes… I’ll be dancing.”

Orobas said this and started dancing.

He was dancing in a strangely sharp and energetic way.

This demon is really talented.

Now, to start training, I opened the page in the spellbook that contained the Binding Spell.

Then I started to chant the spell.

“--I command thee, the 55th in rank, Orobas, I bind thee. Stop immediately, and cease all actions. Obey only my commands. If thou dost not obey me, I shall curse thee in my name, and take everything from thee.”

Suddenly, Orobas, who had been dancing, froze completely.

Did it work?

“Orobas, are you completely immobilized?”

“Yes… ”

Orobas said this, then started to focus.

Then, he let out a breath through his nose, “Funsutt!”, and his body started to move.

The binding was broken.

Orobas began dancing again.

“I managed to break free with some effort.”

“Okay, let’s try it again.”

We tried several times after that, but I couldn’t succeed.

“I guess I just don’t have any talent after all.”

I sighed involuntarily.

“No, I don’t think that’s true at all. I’ve never seen someone as talented as you, Master.”

“Why are you so sure?”

“Because you can summon me for over half a day and remain perfectly fine. Normally, summoning a demon alone takes a lot of physical and magical energy, some even faint from it.”

“Is that so?”

When he said that, I felt a surge of confidence and motivation.

Alright, I thought, and focused on the Binding Spell again.

If I can’t succeed no matter how many times I try, then I should think about what I’m doing wrong fundamentally.

That’s right, Mr. Rudon said to create a clear image in my mind when activating magic.

What should I imagine in this case?

If it’s a binding, it would be… handcuffs, chains, ropes, right?

I tried to imagine Orobas being tied up with ropes and unable to move.

Then, I chanted the Binding Spell, imagining that.

“Ugh…”

Orobas reacted more strongly than before.

But,

“Funsst!!”

Bzzzt! Something like the sound of something breaking, and the binding was broken.

“It was definitely much stronger than before…”

Orobas said this, his breathing rough.

The binding was broken, but I’m definitely making progress.

But, how can I make it even stronger?

There was one more thing Mr. Rudon taught me.

To close my eyes and feel the spirit’s breath.

Even though it’s a demon in my case.

I closed my eyes.

Then, I felt the immense magical power that Orobas emitted on my skin.

But when I observed it closely, I saw that the magic flowed constantly, like blood.

What would happen if I stopped this flow of magical energy?

The thought suddenly popped into my head.

Alright, let’s try it.

I decided this, and clearly imagined in my mind stopping the flow of magical energy, like a dam blocking a river.

Then, I chanted the Binding Spell, with that image in mind.

“--!!!”

Orobas’ expression contorted in pain.

This time, it felt different.

Orobas was frozen in place, unable to move even slightly, so much that he couldn’t even speak.

“I’ll allow you to speak.”

I granted him permission, and Orobas started to move his mouth.

“Master, congratulations. I’m completely immobilized.”

It seems I successfully learned the Binding Spell perfectly.
