Chapter 12: Fire Magic

The three of us, Aim, Orobas, and myself, came to a small meadow nearby.

It wouldn’t be appropriate to practice fire magic in my room.

Incidentally, they were both in spirit form, or in other words, spiritual bodies.

Therefore, only I should be visible to others.

I asked Aim if I could still use magic in my spirit form, and he said there was no problem.

“Human, I’ll show you my magic first.”

As always, it was the cat on Aim’s right hand that was talking.

Aim touched a nearby tree with his left hand, the one that was a snake’s head.

Instantly, a magical circle appeared in mid-air.

The tree burst into flames.

“Whoa…”

Magic without incantations.

He easily performed something even skilled magicians would have difficulty with.

He’s truly a demon.

“Kuhhahaha, it’s so beautiful, the moment things burn!!”

Aim laughed gleefully, looking at the burning tree.

I guess demons are all crazy.

But, even if I were told to do the same thing, I have no idea if I could.

“Aim, how can I do the same thing?”

“Well… You can’t use fire magic like ordinary magicians, can you, human?”

“Yeah, it seems like I have a body that repels spirits, and I can’t handle their power properly.”

“Fuhahaha, it’s only natural that spirits would be repelled if you were emitting that much demonic energy.”

Demonic energy? I don’t remember emitting anything like that.

“My fire magic is fundamentally different from the magic that those ordinary magicians use.”

“Is that so?”

“Humans seem to use magic by borrowing power from the spirits that reside in the atmosphere, but in my case, I myself possess the nature of a Fire Spirit.”

I see.

I’ve heard about this.

Normally, spirits are so small you can’t see them, but it’s said that there are rare, high-level spirits that are the same size as humans.

Could it be that Aim is both a demon and a high-level Fire Spirit?

“But then, I wouldn’t be able to use fire magic.”

It’s impossible for me to possess the nature of a Fire Spirit like Aim.

“No, that’s not true.”

“Huh?”

“Human, do you know about Spirit Possession?”

“I know about it, but…”

Spirit Possession involves a dead person’s spirit entering your body… but how does that relate to this?

“I’ll simply possess your body.”

“Oh, I see.”

That’s right, if Aim possesses my body, I would naturally possess the nature of a Fire Spirit.

“But, don’t try to take everything from me. It will take over your consciousness. One-tenth of my spirit, no, one-hundredth will be enough.”

“But, I’ve never done Spirit Possession before.”

“Then, I’ll do it directly this time.”

Aim said this, then pointed the snake head on his left hand towards my body.

Instantly, something flew from the snake’s mouth into my body.

“Ugh…”

A hot, foreign object ran through my body.

I couldn’t help but groan.

“Aim-dono! You’re not doing anything bad to the Master, are you?”

“Orobas, keep quiet and watch. Your Master wouldn’t die from something this small.”

My whole body is hot.

But, calm down.

Control the flow of magical energy.

I closed my eyes, trying to understand the foreign object in me, gathering it all in one place.

“Hmm, you’ve made it your own.”

A mark like a brand appeared on the back of my left hand.

“What is this…?”

“It’s a Sigil. Proof that you’ve inherited my power.”

The Sigil was a circular mark with geometric patterns inside it, like a symbol.

“So, now I can use Fire Magic?”

“Yes, you should be able to use it if you manipulate the magical energy contained within the Sigil.”

I closed my eyes, as instructed, and tried to imagine calling forth the Fire Magic contained within the Sigil.

“--Ignite (Encendido).”

Instantly, a red magical circle appeared in the air, right above the back of my left hand.

And then, a ball of fire briefly appeared, ‘Bof!’

“I did it…”

Something that I had been unable to do for fourteen years, finally succeeded.

“I did it…!”

Tears of joy streamed down my face.

“Congratulations, Masteeeer!!!”

Orobas was celebrating too.

I did it, I did it, I did it… !

I savored the feeling, deeply, making sure I wouldn’t forget it.
