"Umm... well, it's true... it's not like we made an appointment, right?"
Snow's words tumbled from her lips with a demeanor that seemed half-believing, half-doubting. They contained a word I had never heard before.
However, Coai could roughly understand its meaning.
We didn't promise to visit the magistrate today... so there's no problem in postponing the meeting. That's what she was saying.
For Coai... whether there was an appointment or not with a human magistrate—neither a renowned warrior nor someone whose face she knew—it didn't matter. But if it bothered her, Coai would respect her wishes. It was only natural.
A short while later, a small cup and a pitcher-like sake vessel were placed before the two of them.
"You drink it all down in one go from this little cup, pour more when it's empty, drink it down again... that's how they do it around here. You travelers should give it a try."
The waitress, perhaps forgetting to tell them the name of the sake, only explained how to drink it before returning to the back of the establishment.
Still, they could ask about that later. First, to her.
"Um, well... I kind of feel bad about this, but..."
