Chapter 20: Third Master Can't Bear to Part with His Daughter

The next morning.

After breakfast, Huo Tingyan headed to work and dropped the little girl off at the old mansion.

Early that morning, Third Master Huo had received incessant urgent calls from his own mother.

Even though it had only been one night apart, Madam Qin Shu acted as if a decade had passed, constantly urging him to bring her precious granddaughter over quickly.

Just as the Rolls-Royce entered the villa area, still some distance from the entrance, they could already see Madam Qin Shu standing outside the gate, eagerly looking out.

"Husband, why isn't Luoluo here yet?" Qin Shu paced anxiously, unable to stay still all morning.

"Darling, sit down and rest a while. Worrying won't help. It's rush hour right now, they might be stuck in traffic," Huo Zhenchuan said helplessly, feeling dizzy from her constant movement.

"How can I not worry? As the saying goes, 'A day apart feels like three autumns.' It's been so long, how could I not miss Luoluo?" Qin Shu couldn't help but roll her eyes at him.

"Hey! Look, they're here!" Huo Zhenchuan spotted Huo Tingyan's car and quickly cut off his wife's chatter.

Qin Shu turned to look, her eyes instantly lighting up as she hurried forward to meet them.

"Grandma, I'm here!" As soon as the car stopped, the little girl hopped out like a rabbit.

Su Luo had barely stepped out of the car before Qin Shu swept her into her arms, showering her with affection.

"Oh, my little sweetheart, my precious darling. Grandma missed you so much!"

Grandma's overwhelming affection first thing in the morning left Su Luo a bit flustered. She looked toward her father for help.

Huo Tingyan's tone held a hint of helplessness. "Mom, let her go. You're scaring her."

Hearing this, Qin Shu finally toned it down a little. But turning to see her son still standing there, she immediately frowned and snapped impatiently, "What are you still doing here? Hurry up and go!"

He was interrupting her bonding time with Luoluo.

Feeling his own mother's undisguised annoyance, Huo Tingyan couldn't help but twitch his lips.

Fortunately, he was used to it. After giving the little girl a few more instructions, he quickly got back in the car and left.

"Bye-bye, Daddy! Luoluo will wait for you to come back." The little girl waved her little hand reluctantly.

She knew Daddy had to go to work to earn money for her 'milk powder'. Though she felt very reluctant inside, she didn't fuss, her obedient little appearance tugging at everyone's heartstrings.

Hearing this, Huo Tingyan felt a warm comfort spread through his chest. Seeing the little girl's reluctant expression, he suddenly found it hard to leave.

Maybe I should just take the day off today. After all, money is just a cold number, no matter how much you earn. Spending more time with the little girl would be better.  His precious daughter's sweet smile was far more touching than money tainted with the smell of commerce.

If Assistant Chen ever found out, he'd surely exclaim that the sun must be rising from the west!

Huo Tingyan, famously a workaholic who devoted himself entirely to his job, taking no breaks all year round, 365 days a year, had just had his first thought of slacking off.

Unfortunately, this budding idea was ruthlessly crushed by his own mother.

"Go, go, just go already! Our house isn't welcome to you!"

Bang! The heavy gate slammed shut in front of him, becoming an unbridgeable chasm separating Third Master Huo from his daughter.

Huo Tingyan stood dumbly outside the gate for a while, his back looking rather desolate and forlorn.

"Luoluo, let's go. Grandma will show you your room." Qin Shu happily took her granddaughter's little hand and walked away, heartlessly leaving her son behind.

Su Luo gazed at her father sympathetically, turning back to look at him every few steps as she finally left.

Ah, Daddy is so pitiful. No one loves him, no one cares for him. He's like a little cabbage in the field.

Su Luo clenched her little fist, instantly resolving to be better to Daddy in the future.

...

To ensure her precious granddaughter lived comfortably, Qin Shu had kicked out her annoying grandson and vacated the room with the best sunlight in the house for her.

"Luoluo, come with Grandma to see. If you don't like it, we'll change it," Qin Shu said with a beaming smile, her tone full of doting indulgence. It was as if, should her precious granddaughter be dissatisfied, she would just go buy ten or eight more houses for her to choose from.

However, as soon as the old and the young walked into the main hall, they saw a little boy standing on the stairs, arms crossed, looking down at them with an air of royal disdain.

"Grandma, why do you bring every stray cat and dog home? Our house isn't an animal shelter."
