Beyond the forest, the moonlight made what appeared to be the top of a castle float against the starry sky.
Had it become visible due to the terrain, or had she simply not noticed because her thoughts were consumed by her yearning for her? In any case, Coai continued down the path.
Ahead... it looked like a magnificent castle. Depending on its interior and defenses, perhaps it would be a good place to live with her.
As Coai walked on, harboring such hopes, a somewhat heavy, regular vibration traveled up through the soles of her feet.
The sun had set long ago, and as far as she could see, there was nothing around but a well-maintained road and trees. On a night road like this, the only thing that could make a sound loud enough to shake the ground... would be a horseman.
Thinking this, Coai focused her attention on the vibration that seemed to be footsteps. Just as she sensed it was gradually approaching from the northeast, and that it wasn't a single rider, a faint cloud of dust rose in the distance down the road.
If they were coming from the direction of the castle, they were probably human, not of the Green Demon Tribe. Besides, as far as she knew, the Green Demons didn't ride horses unless it was an emergency.
Humans, huh. If they're skilled, maybe I'll have a little fun.
Whether Coai realized it or not, she longed for contact with humans. Because only in that moment, while fighting, could she forget about her absence.
Before long, Coai caught sight of three riders. Just like the one she had killed a short while ago, she couldn't feel any magic from them at all.
Hoping they were at least skilled soldiers, Coai approached the horsemen without hesitation.
The three riders, who had been trotting along, seemed to notice Coai and slowed their pace as they drew near.
